The mission of the Lafayette Medical Education Foundation, Incorporated (LMEF) shall be to coordinate medical education activities of the medical community of Greater Lafayette and Tippecanoe County, Indiana. 

To accomplish this mission, we shall strive to:

Encourage the practicing physician and healthcare professional to keep abreast of the rapidly changing methods in the diagnoses and treatment of disease.   

Encourage the practicing physician and healthcare professional to formulate his or her own individual means of self-education. 

Support the educational experiences of medical and allied health professionals and trainees.

Cooperate with the quality departments of local hospitals, the local health department, physicians and healthcare professionals in the community, and scientists and researchers at Purdue and Indiana Universities in assessing the educational needs of the community.

Content Area

Program content focuses on areas of importance to primary care practitioners.  Content is determined by needs assessment survey data, hospital quality initiatives, county health department, national care issues and trends, and emergent topics of concern in the medical and lay communities.

Target Audience

Local primary care physicians and interested specialists are the primary audience of LMEF programs.  Additional audience includes advance practice care and registered nurses, nursing students, allied health practitioners and students, pharmacists, and pharmacy students.

Types of Activities

Regularly scheduled series (RSS) include:

  • Medicine Conference-1st Friday's and 4th Wednesday, January through December
  • Pediatric Conferences-3rd Tuesdays of the months, January through December
  • Various Case Presentations Boards that meet weekly, bi-monthly, and quarterly January through December

These conferences consists of didactic presentations followed by a questions and answer period.  Case Presentation format is also utilized.  The speakers include local physician experts, as well as members of the visiting professor programs, as well as nationally known speakers. 

Special Conferences-are held periodically and vary by activity. Some examples include:  ACLS, PALS, seminars, and other types of didactic presentations.

Expected Results

LMEF activities will strive to continuously build upon the educational knowledge base of physicians and health professionals.  LMEF activities will strive to measure competence and performance of physicians utilizing activity evaluations, pre and post tests and follow up evaluations.
